Rep. Vargas’ Statement on President Obama’s Final State of the Union
WASHINGTON, DC (January 13, 2016) — Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) released the following statement after President Obama’s State of the Union address.
“The President highlighted the many steps he has taken over the last few years to improve safety, reform healthcare and revive our economy. My fellow Members of Congress and I must build on this progress and work in a bipartisan way to deliver the positive change our constituents need. I sincerely look forward to working with my friends on both sides of the aisle to find ways in which we, as the President said, 'can make our politics reflect what’s best in us'."
Vargas represents California’s 51st Congressional District which includes the southern portion of San Diego County, all of Imperial County and California’s entire US/Mexico border. Vargas was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 and is currently serving his second term in Congress. He represented the 40th California State Senate District from 2010-2012, the 79th California State Assembly District from 2000 – 2006 and served on the San Diego City Council from 1993 – 2000.
